HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes - 1993.24 - Extending the Terms of the Present Board Members RESOLUTION NO. 1993.24 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE EAST VALLEY WATER DISTRICT PROVIDING THAT THE ELECTION OF GOVERNING BOARD MEMBERS FOR THE DISTRICT BE HELD ON THE SAME DAY AS THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION AND EXTENDING THE TERMS OF THE PRESENT BOARD MEMBERS AS ALLOWED WHEREAS, the Board of Director of the East Valley Water District hereby finds as follows: 1. That pursuant to the terms of the California Elections Code, the elections of the governing body members of the East Valley Water District are to be held in November of odd-numbered years, with the next such election scheduled for November, 1993; 2. That pursuant. to Elections Code §23302. 1, a district is authorized to change the date of the elections of governing board members from odd-numbered to even-numbered years to coincide with the election dates of the statewide general election; 3. That the Board' s goals of encouraging maximum voter turnout and minimizing costs will be promoted by changing the election date from odd-numbered years to coincide with that of the. statewide general election, in each even-numbered years; 4. That this Resolution must be approved by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Bernardino after notice and proceedings set out in Elections Code §23302. 1. If approved by the Board of Supervisors, this change will not have the effect of extending any terms of office beyond December 31, of the year following the year in which the election otherwise would have been conducted.- NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of the East Valley Water District do hereby ordain and direct: 1. Commencing with the governing body election now scheduled for November 1993, governing board elections of the East Valley Water District instead shall be held the same day as the statewide general election, the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November in each even-numbered year. 2. Those East Valley Water District Board Members whose terms of office would have, prior to the adoption of this Resolution, expired in December following the election shall, instead, continue in office until no later than December 1994; 3. Those Board Members whose terms would have expired December 1995, shall continue in office until December 1996. 1 4. The dates of any notices, canvass of votes, certification of election and all other procedure requirements shall comply with those for the statewide general election. 5. The Secretary shall transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Bernardino, together with the request that said Board appropriately notice and approve this Resolution and provide the Board of Directors with notice of such approval.
