EVWD Strategic Planning — March 2011 Strategic Planning Board of Directors Facilitator: Dr. Bill Mathis March 10, 2011, Boardroom, 1:oopm Strategic Planning: As a process that incorporates mission, vision and values critical to the execution of a business plan that meets one to five year objectives. Comments: i. The Board's responsibility is to align the mission, vision and values to the objectives and work plan of staff. 2. Current work plans are internally driven vs. Board driven. General Manager and Staff will greatly benefit from hearing your new direction. g. Because of the volatile economic climate, the initial Strategic Planning effort may be called a Business Plan for 2011. 4. It is recommended that the Board select 4 -5 Strategic Vision Statements that best contain the elements of the District's of the District's mission and obligation to the Community it serves. 5. Examples: Key Elements • Water Resources • Organizational Capacity • Infrastructural /CIP • Legislative Activity (i.e., plus grants) • Financial Stewardship and Viability • Community Communication and Outreach • Conservation and Energy Management www.Math!sGroup.net EVWD Strategic Planning - March 2011 • Reliability of Service • Customer Service 6. Next Steps for EVWD Strategic Vision Implementation: Translating Vision into Execution We are challenged with the responsibility of implementing strategy, developing organizational leadership, creating team and organizations( alignment around goals, ensuring accountability and achieving results. The process we will use at EVWD to accomplish this will include conducting Department assessments, Focus groups, and the Development of specific goals in support of the Board's Strategic Vision. With these goals, we will develop Department Work Plans that include specific goals and objectives for each division of all Departments.
